PURPOSE
The following resolution would authorize the Town Manager to execute a contract through March 31, 2010, with Triangle J Council of Governments Cable Consortium for assistance in addressing cable television and telecommunication responsibilities and to renew the Town’s membership of the Cable Consortium. Annual consortium membership fees would amount to $6,500. Funds are available in the Manager’s Budget (Professional Services).
Due to the deregulation of the video service provider industry in North Carolina, the Town requires a cable consultant who is focused on North Carolina cable law and telecommunications developments. Triangle J Cable Consortium is closely monitoring the effects of the state’s Video Service Competition Act, which took effect in January 2007. The Town of Chapel Hill initially retained services from Triangle J Cable Consortium in November 2007.
RECOMMENDATION
That the Council adopt the following resolution that authorizes the Town Manager to execute the proposed contract (Attachment 1) with Triangle J Council of Governments Cable Consortium as described above.
