subject: Referral of Peak Oil Resolution Request by NC Powerdown to Sustainability Committee and Town Staff

The purpose of this memorandum is to request referral to the Sustainability Committee and Town staff of a peak oil resolution request that was made by NC Powerdown.
NC Powerdown members Daniel Morris, Ari Berenbaum and Abraham Palmer made a presentation entitled “Peak Oil Will Affect Us All” to the SEE Committee at its most recent meeting on April 2, 2008. As part of an effort to provide the Committee with detailed information on the issue of peak oil, the representatives from NC Powerdown also asked the SEE Committee for their assistance in developing a resolution for the Town Council’s consideration on the topic of peak oil awareness and planning.
RECOMMENDATION
The SEE Committee recommended that the Council [adopt the attached resolution to] refer the NC Powerdown peak oil resolution request to the Sustainability Committee and Town staff for discussion and development of a draft resolution for consideration by the Town Council.
