SUBJECT: |
Project Ordinance for a Transit Operating Grant |
DATE: |
June 9, 2008 |
Enactment of the attached ordinance would amend a project budget for a transit operating grant which will be used to supplement the provision of shared ride services to the Town of Carrboro.
BACKGROUND
In federal fiscal year 2006 Chapel Hill Transit was notified of an earmark for Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds to provide shared ride service to the Town of Carrboro. These funds can be used to offset the cost to provide feeder service to those areas in the Town of Carrboro that are not directly served by Chapel Hill Transit’s fixed route service. Under the basic provisions of the CMAQ program, the project must demonstrate that it will not only mitigate the undesirable environmental impacts of automobile travel but will make positive improvements in air quality through transportation projects.
This is the third year allocation of 3-year grant funding for this project.
