AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 14 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES TO AMEND HEALTHCARE ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERS OF THE TOWN COUNCIL (2008-09-06/O-6)
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill as follows:
Section 1. Paragraph (d) of Section 14-59 of Article VII., Chapter 14 of the Town Code is hereby revised to read as follows:
(d) Members of the town council
are eligible to participate in the group medical insurance program on the same
basis as full-time employees. Eligibility for participation in this
coverage shall cease with the expiration of the term of office. Upon
leaving office, if the member of town council has served two full terms of
office, he/she is eligible for continuation of health insurance benefits, with
75 % of the premium to be paid by the Town and 25% to be paid by the
individual. If he/she chooses to continue coverage after leaving office,
he/she is also eligible to purchase continued dependent coverage, by paying
100% of the premium. Members of the Council must request coverage be continued
within 30 days after leaving office.”
Section 2. This ordinance shall become effective July 1, 2008.
