ACTION

Subject:	Petition from Go Chapel Hill Active Living by Design Advisory Committee for Complete Streets Ordinance
Meeting Date:	May 21, 2008
Recommendation:	The Commission voted to recommend that the Council adopt the Complete Streets Ordinance with the strongest ordinance possible and that adoption of an ordinance be a high priority of the Council.
Vote:	Vote: 10-0
	Ayes:  Mark Broadwell, Mary Margaret Carroll, Chris Culbreth, Kathryn James, Laura King Moore, Scott Nilsen, Glenn Parks, Amy Ryan,  Jonathan Whitney, and Robin Whitsell.
	Nays:  None
Issues Raised:
	A Commissioner recommended that strict design guidelines are needed for implementation of a Complete Streets ordinance and that more than sidewalks are included. The Commissioner recommended that the Historic District Commission review the petition and make a recommendation to Council. A citizen recommend that the ordinance be adopted because every Council has changed the Town’s sidewalk plans. The Commissioners recommended that all available resources and data be combined a single comprehensive plan.
