RESOLUTION A

A RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE TOWN MANAGER, DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT,  PLANNING DEPARTMENT AND PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT TO PREPARE REPORTS ON IMPLEMENTATION OF RECENTLY GRANTED AUTHORITY AS DESCRIBED IN THE SEPTEMBER 8, 2008 MEMORANDUM FROM THE TOWN ATTORNEY (2008-09-08/R-3a)

WHEREAS, the North Carolina General Assembly enacted Session Law 2008-16 authorizing the Town to levy an additional $10.00 motor vehicle registration tax, with the additional funds being dedicated to public transportation purposes; and,

WHEREAS, the North Carolina General Assembly enacted Session Law 2008-75 authorizing the Town to adopt ordinances regulating the demolition of historic structures; and,

WHEREAS, the North Carolina General Assembly enacted Session Law 2008-76 extending the Town’s authority to require developers to provide funds to be used for improvement of community recreational facilities rather than providing recreation areas and facilities in individual new developments.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Manager, Director of Business Management Services, Planning Department and Parks and Recreation Department are directed to review these new laws and provide the Town Council with reports identifying appropriate steps for the Council to consider in order to use the newly granted authority.
