A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A NON-BINDING LETTER OF INTENT AND GOOD FAITH STATING THE TOWN’S INTENT TO PROVIDE THE PLAZA LEVEL OF THE WALLACE PARKING DECK FOR KIDZU’S EXPANSION NEEDS (2008-09-08/R-9.1)

WHEREAS, the Town Council recognizes the importance of a strong and vibrant downtown; and

WHEREAS, the Town Council recognizes the need to increase visitation to the downtown area; and

WHEREAS, the Kidzu Children’s Museum, a key attraction to the downtown area, is wishing to expand its program and is looking for alternatives to locate a new museum facility; and

WHEREAS, the Kidzu Children’s Museum provides children’s activities and programs that are compatible to those offered by the Town’s Parks and Recreation Department in other Town parks; and

WHEREAS, the Town Council believes it is in the Town’s interests to explore the possibility of sharing the Wallace parking deck plaza with the Kidzu Children’s Museum for future buildings and/or programs;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED  by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council authorizes the Town Manager and Town Attorney to negotiate and execute on behalf of the Town a non-binding letter of intent and good faith stating the Town’s intent to provide the Plaza Level of the Wallace Parking Deck for Kidzu’s expansion needs.
