The meeting began at 4:05 pm.  York briefed the committee on the process and interview schedule.  Each of the three finalists had thirty minutes to give a presentation and ten minutes to answer questions from the committee.  Each finalist will be provided a $500 honorarium for his presentation; David Finn and Alvin Frega will be compensated for their travel expenses. Walter Hood will present over the phone.

Walter Hood began his presentation at 4:15 pm via speaker phone while relevant images were projected for the group.  Hood then answered the committee’s questions for ten minutes. After a committee break, Alvin Frega made a presentation and answered questions from 5 – 5:40 pm, followed by David Finn from 5:50 – 6:30 pm.  The artists discussed their understandings of the project, The Greenways, and Chapel Hill, and described their ideas for the residency and prototype.  The committee asked questions that arose from the artists’ presentations and a list of issues and questions provided by the Public Arts Office.

After these presentations, the committee went into closed session at 6:30 pm to discuss the finalists’ merits.  The Artist Selection Committee concluded that Alvin Frega was the artist to recommend to Chapel Hill Town Council for the Greenways Tails System Percent for Art Project.  At the committee’s request York will check Frega’s references regarding his involvement with public constituents prior to submitting the committee’s recommendation to The Public Art Commission and Town Council.

The meeting concluded at 7:15 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
