Title of Agenda Item: The Office of Urban Planning
Background: The attached staff memorandum includes background information on President Obama and Vice President Biden creation of a White House Office of Urban Policy to develop a strategy for metropolitan areas throughout American and to ensure that all federal dollars targeted to urban areas are effectively spent on the highest impact programs. The Director of Urban Policy will report directly to the President and coordinate all federal urban programs.
Fiscal Note: Not applicable.
Staff Recommendation(s): That the Council adopt the attached resolution requesting that the proposed Office of Urban Policy in President Obama’s administration form a permanent advisory group to help guide that office in its efforts to provide assistance to our nation’s urban areas.
