A RESOLUTION ENDORSING AN ALTERNATIVE ROADWAY CONFIGURATION ON WEAVER DAIRY ROAD NEAR TIMBERLYNE SHOPPING CENTER (2009-03-09/R-3)

WHEREAS, on March 26, 2007 the Council created a Task Force to advise it how to better manage the future development in the Northern Area of Chapel Hill, including advice in developing recommendations for the Council’s consideration on design standards and appearance guidelines for the implementation of transit-oriented development along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Weaver Dairy Road and Eubanks Road, and advice in developing recommendations on pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements throughout the study area; and

WHEREAS, on January 14, 2008 the Council received recommendations from the Northern Area Task Force; and

WHEREAS, on January 14, 2008, the Council adopted a resolution stating that it is Council expectations that future development applications in the area will incorporate the realignment of University Station Road with a new entrance at Timberlyne Shopping Center; and

WHEREAS, the Town staff worked with the area developers and North Carolina Department of Transportation and made recommendations to the Council regarding alternative roadway configurations on Weaver Dairy Road near Timberlyne Shopping Center as presented in a March 9, 2009 report; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council hereby endorse the alternative roadway configuration, Roadway #1 as presented in Attachment 2 and 3 of the March 9, 2009 Council report.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council request that the North Carolina Department of Transportation include a median opening and associated widening in the Weaver Dairy Road Widening Project for the alternative roadway configuration.
