Chapel Hill Public Library:
Background Update (3/19/09)
- Chapel Hill Public Library’s number of patrons and their use has
been pretty consistent: CH (55%); OC (41%); Other (4%).
- The number of materials being borrowed by non-Chapel Hill Orange
County residents is significant and rising: 364,433 out of 911,084 items in
2007-08.
- Orange County’s contribution has remained at approximately the
same level since 1995: $249,333.
- Orange County’s support is 10.6% of this year’s total operating
budget, while use is 40% for the same services Chapel Hill residents receive.
- Orange County supports two library systems: CHPL and Hyconeechee
Regional Library System. Orange County Public Library is the region’s
headquarters and its director is also the director of the regional library.
- Last year, CHPL loaned 911,084 materials. Hyconeechee Regional
Library loaned 447,353 over a three county region.
