The tasks to be undertaken to analyze the impacts of Carolina North on Chapel Hill Transit and develop recommendations to address those impacts are consistent with the analysis included in the Long Range Transit Plan. In some cases the Transportation Impact Analysis will benefit from updated or revised information and through the analysis will allow the Town to affirm the recommendations of the Transit Plan.

 

Carolina North Transportation Impact Analysis Task

Relationship to the Chapel Hill Long Range Transit Plan

Estimate existing Chapel Hill transit capacity.

CH LRTP used existing transit network as the basis for future analysis.

Analyze 2015 and 2025 transit conditions without Carolina North using background growth from adopted MPO 2035 Plan.

Transit Plan utilized 2035 growth projections for all analysis.

Estimate total trips generated by Carolina North based on most recent 3 million square foot development plans.

Transit Plan assumed 50% build out of Carolina North by 2035.

Estimate mode split of all trips based on existing UNC campus travel surveys and assessment of impact existing parking policy and two alternative policies.

Transit Plan included an assessment of the impact of extending UNC main campus parking policies to Carolina North.

Distribute trips to Carolina North by mode of travel and direction of approach using regional model, UNC employee information and non model analysis.

Transit Plan projected future transit trips to gateway corridors using regional model and non model analysis.

Assess the impacts of Carolina North transit demand on anticipated transit services for 2015 and 2025.

Transit Plan assessed impacts of local and regional growth for 2035 on transit system.

Develop recommended transit improvements intended to address increased transit demand from Carolina North by gateway corridor.

Transit Plan includes recommendations for future transit improvements to address increased transit demand.
