Title of Agenda Item: Update on Community Center Retaining Wall Percent for Art Project
Background: The attached staff memorandum includes background information on the process for selection, public input, and review of the artist’s preliminary design for the Community Center Park Wall art project.
Fiscal Note: A total of $47,600 in project funds has been encumbered from the following: $25,000 from the current fiscal year Small Parks Improvement Budget and $22,600 from the 2007-08 Community Center Capital Renovation budget in accordance with Percent for Art Ordinance. $2,600 of the $47,600 encumbered will cover Public Works labor for site preparation and installation costs (removal and recycling of timbers, excavation of hillside with backhoe, installation of protection fencing, installation of filter fabric, placement of 4 yards wash stone, placement and leveling of sand, placement of wall segments with backhoe, backfill and shaping of topsoil, laying of mulch, removal of excess fill). $45,000 of the $47,600 encumbered is the artist’s contract amount, which covers design, fabrication, transportation and installation.
Staff Recommendation(s): That the Council approve the Public Art review Committee’s recommendation to move forward with the Design development stage of the Community Center Park Wall project.
