Public Process for Tree Ordinance. (R-4) Council Goal 3. Continue Focus on Land Use, Transit and Development |

| Background: Initial changes to tree regulations were enacted on June 11, 2007. Phase two is to develop new tree protection regulations. The 2009 draft language for public discussion illustrates a possible approach to tree canopy protection. The purpose of the public discussion will be to explore this option, and to solicit input on tree canopy coverage standards, based on use and lot size, as a possible approach. | |||

| Fiscal Note: Discussion of the process of implementation has no significant fiscal impact. However, the cost of implementation, administration and enforcement of new regulations, if enacted, would be addressed during the public hearing process. | |||

| Recommendations: That the Council endorse the proposed schedule for community input and hold a public hearing on a proposed Tree Ordinance, incorporating community input, in spring 2010. | |||
