Background:
In the fall of 2009 Chapel Hill Transit conducted a safety Audit to identify ways to improve the Transit Safety Program. The audit made several key recommendations including hiring a Safety Manager, additional supervisors, extensive supervisor training and better educational and motivational tools for transit operators.
A Safety Training Manager was hired in August 2009 and has developed safety program activities to: 1. Implement professional development of supervisors 2. Improve operator training and recognition Using fiscal year 2009 surplus from fund balance in the amount of $54,000, Chapel Hill Transit can introduce activities and programs that will yield results in reduced accidents and better trained transit operators. |

Fiscal Note: The adjustments in the Transit Fund amendment are to accommodate safety program improvements. The most notable adjustment $25,000 Supervisory Training $24,000 Educational/ Motivational Activities for Transit Operators $5,000 Recognition Activities $54,000 Total Appropriation. | |||
