SUBJECT: Response to June 23, 2003 Petition from Chair of Horace Williams Citizens’ Committee

On June 23, 2003 the Horace Williams Citizens’ Committee submitted a petition to the Town Council requesting a meeting with the Mayor to discuss the speed at which the University’s plans for Carolina North are unfolding. The Council referred this petition to the Town Manager.
Since that time we understand the Chair has had a discussion with the Mayor on this topic and the Mayor requested that the Committee accelerate its work. Accordingly we have been working with the Committee to prepare an interim report, which is on the agenda tonight. Please see Agenda Item #5h.
Given the University’s schedule for work on plans for this property (as described in the attached correspondence from the Chair of the Horace Williams Citizens’ Committee) the Committee has prepared this interim report for the Council’s consideration tonight, with intent to deliver a final report on September 22, 2003.
