Subject: $15,000 FUNDS REQUEST FROM IFC

Importance: High

Dear Members of the Town Council,

As you can imagine, the Inter-Faith Council is fully in the throes of planning for the April 10th (Easter Weekend, much to our dismay) transfer of the men's shelter and community kitchen from OMB to the interim locations that have been arranged. As of last week, we have finally pinned down some figures on the costs involved in the relocation. I have attached a matrix providing information to date. The least solid figure is that for transportation. We have not yet reached resolution on how this will be handled.

I believe you are all aware that just as the Town is experiencing fiscal challenges, so is the IFC. We have recently laid off four additional full-time staff members to accommodate the continuing economic decline. The costs directly related to the temporary transfer of programs from the OMB were never part of our budget, as we were unaware of the Town's plans at the time we set budget last year.

Our budget is as lean as it can get without further significant program cuts. It is unrealistic to expect that either the IFC or the congregations can give much more than we are now giving. Our staff is devoting huge numbers of hours to managing this matter - hours that otherwise would be devoted to our core work and hours that eat far into staff members' own personal lives.

We are requesting $15,000 from the Town to help defray the costs of this relocation. IFC will be absorbing at least this much and collectively the congregations will also carry a significant burden.

Needless to say, I would be glad to meet with any Council member or the Council as a whole to answer questions and/or provide more information.

Sincerely,

Natalie Ammarell
