Re: 2004 Walk For Education
Date: June 30, 2004
Dear Mayor and Town Council Representatives,
The Public School Foundation gratefully requests approval of a petition to host the 8th Annual Walk For Education at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 16th. In addition, PSF is introducing a new addition to this year festivities. The “Race For Education,” will be held at 1 p.m. prior to the annual Walk For Education.
The Walk For Education unites our community in support of public education and generates additional resources for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public Schools. Our school children, along with their families and teachers raised over $57,000 for school programs last year from this event. The Walk For Education begins at McCorkle Place on the UNC Campus and concludes with a Post-Walk Carnival at Lincoln Center.
This year's event will include a 5K Race For Education to encourage higher participation from middle and high school students and race enthusiasts within our community. The Public School Foundation has received verbal approval of the 5K racing route from Officer Phil Smith, who has agreed to staff the event with off-duty police officers.
We request your approval for the Public School Foundation’s petition at your next meeting. Thank you for your complete consideration.
Sincerely,
Nancy Zeman, President
Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation
