SUBJECT:       Budget Amendment for Public Dialogue on Homelessness

The attached budget ordinance would use $1,200 from the Town Council’s contingency account to provide funding for the Roundtable Discussion on Homelessness to be held on November 18, 2004.

 

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION

 

At the Town Council Planning Session on January 17, 2004, the Council agreed to add a public dialogue on homelessness to its list of goals for 2004.  A planning committee was organized in June 2004, comprised of members from the Town of Chapel Hill, Town of Carrboro, Orange County, Triangle United Way, IFC and OPC Mental Health Continuum of Care.  The Roundtable Planning Committee proposes to hold a Roundtable Discussion on Homelessness on November 18, 2004, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Invitations will be mailed to individuals and community groups that currently provide services to the homeless.  In addition, registration is open to the public.

 

In order to complete planning for this event, the Committee requests that the Town provide approximately $1,000 for facilitator services and $200 for videographer/production fees.  The Town would also provide web support and costs associated with postage and copying to be offset by donations from the other governing bodies.

 

There are funds available in the Council’s contingency account to pay for the facilitator and videographer/production fees.

 

RECOMMENDATION

 

We recommend that the Council approve the attached budget amendment using $1,200 in Council contingency to pay for the relocation costs.

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Budget Ordinance entitled “An Ordinance Concerning Appropriations and the Raising of Revenue for the Fiscal Year Beginning July 1, 2004” as duly adopted on June 14, 2004 and the same is hereby amended as follows:
