SUBJECT:       Potential Revision of the Council Meeting Calendar

At the November 22, 2004, Council meeting a Council member requested that the Council consider rescheduling of the March 30, 2005 Council business meeting to another date.

We provide information about the Council’s calendar and community events for the Council’s consideration.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION

The current calendar schedules a business meeting on Wednesday, March 30, 2005.  This meeting was scheduled to avoid the Monday, March 28 Easter Monday observance, as requested in the past.

A Council member requested this the March 30 meeting be rescheduled because it conflicts with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Schools’ spring break, scheduled for March 25 through April 1.  The date of April 4 was suggested for consideration.  It was noted by another Council member that the April 4 date conflicts with the NCAA finals.

The following meetings and events are scheduled in March and April:

• March 7:  Business meeting
• March 11-15:  NLC Congressional City Conference in Washington, DC
• March 11-20:  UNC spring break
• March 21:  Public Hearing
• March 23:  Public Forum on the Budget (Wednesday)
• March 25:  Good Friday (Town Holiday)
• March 25 – April 1:  Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools’ spring break
• March 28:  Easter Monday (not a Town holiday)
• March 30:  Business meeting

• April 4:  NCAA finals

• April 6:  Budget work session, if desired (Wednesday)
• April 11:  Business meeting
• April 18:  Public Hearing
• April 23-24:  Passover
• April 25:  Business Meeting
• April 27:  Budget Work Session, if desired (Wednesday)
• April 28:  Assembly of Governments meeting, tentative (Thursday)

RECOMMENDATION

If the Council wishes to reschedule the March 30, 2005 meeting, a resolution is attached that the Council may use for that purpose.

A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE COUNCIL MEETING CALENDAR FOR 2005 (2005-01-10/R-9)

WHEREAS, the Council has expressed a desire to reschedule the March 30, 2005 business meeting to a more acceptable date;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council hereby amends its Council Meeting Calendar for 2005 to reschedule the Wednesday, March 30, 2005, business meeting to:
