Subject: Intersection of Ferrell and Tinkerbell in Colony Woods

Mike--

I would officially like to petition the town of Chapel Hill to improve the safety AND traffic flow at the intersection of Ferrell and Tinkerbell Streets in Colony Woods.  At present, the major flow

(Tinkerbell) is stop-controlled whereas the very minor flow (Ferrell) has no traffic control.  This often leads to confusion by the drivers heading North on Ferrell-- almost no traffic the other direction on Ferrell as it is a very short dead-end section.  Many drivers do not seem to know whether it is safe to proceed without stopping whereas others go onto Tinkerbell from Ferrell faster than they should knowing that Tinkerbell is stop-controlled.  Add to that the vision-obstructing shrubs on the West corner of Tinkerbell and Ferrell; seems to me an accident waiting to happen.

Perhaps the optimal solution is a four-way stop, which would continue to keep speeds down on Tinkerbell while removing the existing ambiguity of the configuration.  Whatever is decided, I appreciate yours (and the

Town's) consideration.  Please feel free to contact me (929-3318) with any questions.  And GO, TAR HEELS!!
