SUBJECT:      Street Acceptance – Dogwood Acres Drive

The attached resolution would accept for Town maintenance the following State-maintained street for purposes of maintenance and eligibility for Powell Bill funding:

· Dogwood Acres Drive from the intersection of US 15-501 to a point 0.23 miles west at the Town’s limit

DISCUSSION

The portion of Dogwood Acres Drive being recommended for acceptance into the local system would permit roadway improvements consistent with Town standards, specifically the installation of a raised crosswalk joining the northern and southern sections of Southern Community Park.

We would be eligible for annual Powell Bill reimbursement once this street is added to the Town’s maintenance network. Approval of the resolution at this time would allow for inclusion in the update of the Powell Bill map due in July 2005.

RECOMMENDATION

That the Town Council adopt the attached resolution.

A RESOLUTION REQUESTING DELETION FROM STATE-MAINTAINED SYSTEM OF A STREET LYING WITHIN THE TOWN OF CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA, AND FORMERLY MAINTAINED BY THE NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS (2005-04-05/R-8)

WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Division of Highways, has maintained a certain street lying within the Town of Chapel Hill; and

WHEREAS, the Town of Chapel Hill will now assume maintenance responsibility for this street;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Town hereby agrees to provide all necessary maintenance on the 0.23 miles of the street in question, as set forth on the tabulation below; and the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Division of Highways, effective June 17, 2005, will discontinue all maintenance on said street as of this date.
