DISCUSSION

On December 6, 2004, the Council accepted the primary recommendation from the Special Committee to Consider Renaming Airport Road to change the name of Airport Road to “Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.” with a separate sign mounted underneath with the designation “Historic Airport Road.”

On January 10, 2005, the Council authorized the formation of an Observances Committee to organize a road name change celebration. The Council expressed its desire to recognize and celebrate the renaming of the road on May 8, 2005, in an appropriate fashion that would involve the community. The Observances Committee is formed and is currently planning celebratory community events.
