SUBJECT:       Addition of Four Police Positions

The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information regarding the costs of adding four police officer positions to the Police Department.

 

The annual cost of adding four officers in July 2005 would be approximately $194,836.  This includes twelve months of salaries and benefits along with first year equipment costs.  The six-month cost would be $102,228.

 

If four positions were added to the Police Department they would be added to the downtown unit to increase foot and bicycle patrols in the Central Business District.  The four new positions would increase daytime coverage by one officer and nighttime coverage by two.
