Subject: RE: Stop Sign

Thank you for the call about the next step. As outlined, please pass this on for petition at the September 12th town council meeting. Please add to the comments that the additional activity during the every Thursday farmer's market, musical concert series and periodic outdoor drama functions were not mentioned in the prior correspondence. These events make this concern more than just a Friday and Saturday night concern.

Thank you again for your assistance.

Subject: Stop Sign

Dear Sir,

I am a Southern Village resident concerned about the corner crossing at Aberdeen and Market Street in front of the Lumina Theater.

Currently, there is not a stop sign at this corner although there is one at the next corner of Market and Kildaire. This creates an inconsistent stop and go traffic pattern around the village green area making it confusing to those who do not frequent this area.

This corner has a huge volume of foot traffic especially during Friday and Saturday summer nights when outdoor movies are shown. Much of this volume is young people who do not pay as much attention to crossing the street as an adult might. This corner also has outdoor dining at Pazzo where I have personally witnessed numerous "near miss" accidents in front of the Lumina Theater. Employees at the Lumina have indicted that they can stand inside the theater door and watch the near hits at this corner!

Many drivers choose to stop at this corner even though it is not required just because of the sheer volume of pedestrians walking about the area. Frequently, drivers stop to read the theater listing of movie show times. I have watched drivers get nearly rear-ended by those not expecting a stopped vehicle here. There is also an large amount of passenger drop off and pick ups at the corner for both the movie theater and restaurant(i.e.; restaurant customers picking up pizzas). With the addition of two more restaurants just across the village green even more pedestrian traffic is expected.

This corner is what I would simply describe as a beehive of activity on weekend evenings! If a traffic study is necessary may I suggest that it is conducted during these peak times.

My husband, Tom Hanlon, is the president of the Southern Village Homeowners Association and he suggested that I share these concerns with you. Would you kindly provide me with the information necessary to get a stop sign installed at this corner as soon as possible. It remains a blessing that we have not yet had a fatality at the corner.

Thank you in advance for your prompt response and action to this matter.

Best regards,

Kimberly Hanlon
