SUBJECT:    Horace Williams Citizens’ Committee Status Report

DATE:          September 15, 2005

The Horace Williams Citizens’ Committee (HWCC) has met several times during 2005:

• March 17, 2005 – Recommendations to Council on the rezoning of the Horace Williams Tract

• April 21, 2005 – Presentation by Professor  Douglas Crawford-Brown from the Carolina Environmental Program on their Carbon Reduction Project

• September 15, 2005 – Presentation by the Village Project on a Concept Plan for Carolina North

The HWCC is currently an ad hoc committee with a standing meeting on the third Thursday of every month at 5:30 PM in the Town’s library.  The HWCC would like clarification from Council as to:

• The anticipated need for HWCC work for 2005-2006.  Examples include responding to pending comments from UNC on the HWCC Report of January 2004 and comparing the HWCC Report to the Village Project Concept Plan.

• Whether the HWCC should be transformed from an ad hoc committee to a standing committee with annual elections of Chair and Vice Chair positions.
