SUBJECT: University of North Carolina: Campus Master Plan Update

PURPOSE
Tonight, the University will present an update to the 2001 Campus Master Plan.
BACKGROUND
In March 2001, the University’s Board of Trustees approved a Campus Master Plan for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Campus Master Plan is an internal planning document, used by the University’s staff and Board of Trustees, to guide future development for the main campus. A copy of the Summary from the 2001 Master Plan is attached.
In October 2001, the Town Council approved a Development Plan for the central campus. On June 25, 2003, August 26, 2003, and June 14, 2004, the Council approved modifications to the Development Plan. Subsequent to the approval of the 2001 Development Plan and its modifications, the University began to implement the construction program authorized by the Development Plan.
DISCUSSION
As stated on the University’s web page (www.unc.edu/community) the updated Master Plan continues the work of the 2001 Master Plan. We understand that the University will have handout materials available for the Council at tonight’s meeting.
