A RESOLUTION HONORING
EDITH WIGGINS
FOR SERVICE
TO THE TOWN OF CHAPEL HILL
WHEREAS, Edith Wiggins served the Town of Chapel Hill as a member of the Town Council from October 7, 1996, to December 6, 2003; and as Mayor pro tempore from December 6, 2003, to December 5, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Mayor pro tem Wiggins has shown the skill of listening to others and accepting and respecting their points of view, believing that in the end the processes and discussions are just as important as the result; and
WHEREAS, Mayor pro tem Wiggins encouraged a broad community discussion on the renaming of Airport Road to Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd., and supported with her fellow Council Members the renaming which was made official in May 2005 as an expression of the Town’s desire to be a model of progressive vision on civil rights, economic justice and racial harmony; and
WHEREAS, Mayor pro tem Wiggins consistently advocated for employees to receive the highest compensation possible each year, to be treated with dignity, and to have a workplace free of discrimination which in turn encourages employees to do a good job and makes the community we live in a better place; and
WHEREAS, Mayor pro tem Wiggins advocated for a process to obtain feedback from employees on work climates in the Town which resulted in the McKoy Report which recommended the creation of the Employee Forum, an advisory committee to the Manager; and
WHEREAS, Mayor pro tem Wiggins has diligently encouraged the Council and staff to find ways to help citizens participate in their Town government; and
WHEREAS, Mayor pro tem Wiggins served the community and the Town Council with her active participation on the following committees and work groups, as well as, in many other ways:

WHEREAS, Mayor pro tem Wiggins determination, belief in fair process, belief in a participatory democratic system, and dedication to the people of Chapel Hill will be missed; and
WHEREAS, Mayor pro tem Wiggins has decided to leave her seat on the Town Council in order to devote more time to her special interests;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council hereby honors and praises
for her outstanding service to the people of Chapel Hill and Orange County and her loving dedication to the betterment of the Town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
