AGENDA #4r

MEMORANDUM

TO:                  Mayor and Town Council

FROM:            Council Member Flicka Bateman

SUBJECT:       Interim Report from ad hoc Committee on Merritt Pasture

DATE:             January 10, 2000

On April 26, the Council referred to the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Greenways Commission a thorough evaluation of the uses of the Merritt Pasture, open space and passive recreation.  We also requested that residents of the adjacent neighborhoods be included in discussions about uses of the meadow.

The two commissions decided to form an ad hoc committee to review the uses of Merritt Pasture.  After some discussions about the form of the committee, its membership and its charge, the group is being formed now and will have it first meeting in January.

I recommend that the Town Council formally request that the Merritt Pasture Committee make an interim report to the Council by the end of February 2000.  The following resolution would do so.

A RESOLUTION REQUESTING FOR INTERIM REPORT TO THE TOWN COUNCIL BY THE  MERRITT PASTURE COMMITTEE            (2000-01-10/R-17)

WHEREAS, the Town Council referred issues about the Merritt Pasture to the Parks and Recreation Commission and to the Greenways Commission, and

WHEREAS, the Commissions created a Merritt Pasture Committee to consider these issues,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council thanks the members of the Merritt Pasture Committee for their on-going work, and respectfully requests an interim report by the end of February 2000.

This the 10th day of January, 2000.
