The attached resolution would refer the Chapel Hill
Transit 25th Anniversary Review Committee Final Report to the
Manager for evaluation and a follow-up report to the Council.
In May, 1998 the Town Council created the Chapel
Hill Transit 25th Anniversary Review Committee. The Committee was
composed of the Town’s Transportation Board and additional representatives from
local, regional and state jurisdictions and local community organizations that
have been involved with Chapel Hill Transit in the provision of transit service
to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro service area. The Council charged the 25th
Anniversary Committee to develop a mission statement for the transit system and
assess how well Chapel Hill Transit has served community interests.
The Committee has completed its work and prepared a
final Report for the Council’s consideration.
The Chapel Hill Transit 25th Anniversary
Review Committee Report includes an assessment of the status of the Town’s
transit system, identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
The Report also includes a mission statement for the transit system, developed
by the Committee and approved by Council in June, 1999.
From the assessment of strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats the Committee developed a set of short term and long
term recommendations for the transit system. These recommendations have
implications for the Chapel Hill Transit operating and capital budgets, as well
as longer-term impacts on the community.
We suggest that the Report be referred to the
Manager for review. Staff will prepare a follow-up report with suggestions for
the Council’s consideration on how best to implement the recommendations of the
Report. This assessment will include an evaluation of the budgetary impacts of
the individual recommendations and how the Committee Report can be taken into
account in the Town’s Comprehensive Plan.
Manager’s Recommendation: That the Council adopt the
attached resolution receiving the Chapel Hill Transit 25th
Anniversary Committee’s Final Report and referring the Report to the Manager
for evaluation and a follow-up report.
A RESOLUTION RECEIVING THE FINAL REPORT OF THE
CHAPEL HILL TRANSIT 25TH ANNIVERSARY REVIEW COMMITTEE AND REFERRING
THE REPORT TO THE TOWN MANAGER FOR A FOLLOW-UP REPORT (2000-01-24 R-7)
WHEREAS, the Town Council established the Chapel
Hill Transit 25th Anniversary Review Committee to prepare an
assessment of the Chapel Hill Transit system; and
WHEREAS, the 25th Anniversary Review
Committee has completed their work and submitted a Final Report to the Council;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the
Town of Chapel Hill that the Council receives the 25th Anniversary
Committee’s Final Report and refers the Final Report to the Town Manager for
evaluation and a follow-up report.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council expresses
its thanks to the 25th Anniversary Review Committee for its work.
