AGENDA #16.a(5)

MEMORANDUM

TO:                  Mayor and Town Council

FROM:            Council Member Bill Strom

SUBJECT:       Petition to Appoint a Committee to Review a Development Concept for a 52-Acre Property Off Homestead Road

DATE:             February 28, 2000

As the Council’s liaison to the Community Design Commission, I have had the opportunity to review the concept plan for a 52-acre property off Homestead Road.  It has come to my attention that some Council members, perhaps all, have been approached by representatives of the developer of this land parcel.

The developer is considering a proposal that concerns me, because I believe it might not be consistent with the new Comprehensive Plan that the Council is about to adopt.  Specifically, I am concerned that the development concept now under consideration might not include the mix of housing types and land uses that we would find in the best interests of the community.

I believe that it would be useful for the Mayor to appoint a committee of the Council to meet with the developer and review the ideas in the new Comprehensive Plan that seem to be relevant to this particular property.  Giving an early sense of the Council’s concerns and interests would be helpful to the developer, I believe, as well as in the community’s best interests.

I would be willing to serve on this committee with other members of the Council.
