SUBJECT: Bid: Generator for Public Works

The attached resolution would accept the bid of Keplar Electric in the amount of $33,751 for an emergency back-up electric power generator for the Public Works Department for use during electric power outages. The generator would provide the power needed to continue to use the Public Works building as an operations center when power lines are down. The funding for the purchase and installation of this generator is included in the HUD Disaster Recovery Initiative Grant awarded to the Town after Hurricane Fran.
Notice To Bidders and specifications were distributed to six (6) vendors in North and South Carolina, and to four (4) minority business organizations located in North Carolina.
The Notice To Bidders was published in The Chapel Hill News on March 12, 2000. Three bids were received and opened at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, March 23, 2000 as follows:

The bids received were reviewed and evaluated by Town staff. The equipment and services proposed by Keplar, the lowest responsive bidder, meet the specifications of the Town of Chapel Hill.
RECOMMENDATION
That the Council accept the bid of Keplar Electric in the amount of $33,751 for the purchase and installation of one emergency back-up electric power generator.
A RESOLUTION
ACCEPTING A BID FOR ONE EMERGENCY BACK-UP ELECTRIC POWER GENERATOR
(2000-04-10/R-5)
WHEREAS, the Town of Chapel Hill has solicited formal bids by legal notice in The Chapel Hill News on March 12, 2000 in accordance with General Statute 143-129 for one electric power generator; and
WHEREAS, the following bids were received and opened on March 23, 2000:
