SUBJECT: Transit Route and Schedule Information at Bus Stops

At the March 29, 2000 Town Council meeting, a Council Member expressed a desire to have more transit route and schedule information displayed at bus stops and inquired about the cost of adding such displays.

This recommendation was included in the Chapel Hill Transit 25^th Anniversary Report, and we hope to begin adding more displays during the next year. Currently, on-street transit information is available in most bus shelters and on a limited number of bus stop poles. At this time, we do not have a list of bus stops that would be good candidates for route and schedule displays. Our highest priority for new displays would be at the busiest bus stops. Once we develop a list, we will proceed to add displays. We expect to make these improvements at about 20 locations.

Estimated costs for adding signs would be approximately $100 to $200 per location. Addition of transit and schedule information at all stops could require full-time staff dedicated to keeping the signs updated and in good repair.
