AGENDA #6c
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor and Town Council
FROM: W. Calvin Horton, Town Manager
SUBJECT: Project Ordinance for a 2000-2001 Transportation Planning Grant
DATE: June 26, 2000
The attached ordinance would establish a project budget for a transit planning grant anticipated in the 2000-2001 budget adopted by the Council.
The Town has requested federal and State transportation planning funds, known as Section 5303 funds (formerly Section 8 funds). These Section 5303 funds are awarded to the Town of Chapel Hill under a larger Section 5303 planning grant administered by the City of Durham. As the lead city for the Urbanized Area, the City of Durham distributes these funds to the smaller cities.
Federal Transit Administration Section 5303 planning funds have been allocated to Chapel Hill in the amount of $42,920 and will be used for general program support and technical assistance to the Town’s Transportation Planning staff. Tasks to be performed include the annual update of the Transportation Improvement Plan and an ongoing review of transit system operations. The City of Durham will pass through 90 percent ($38,628) in planning project funds from the Federal Transit Administration and the N.C. Department of Transportation. The Town of Chapel Hill will provide the local match of 10 percent ($4,292) for this project, from funds budgeted for this purpose.
Acceptance of this grant was anticipated in the 2000-2001 budget adopted by the Council.
That the Council adopt the attached budget ordinance.
