MEMORANDUM

SUBJECT:       Waiver of Permit Fees to Repair Flood Damage

DATE:             August 28, 2000

The attached resolution would authorize the waiver of permit fees to repair damage resulting from the flooding which occurred in Chapel Hill on July 23 and 24, 2000.

DISCUSSION

Heavy rainfall overnight on July 23-24 resulted in flooding in the lower Booker Creek and Bolin Creek basins in both residential and business areas.  Some buildings and businesses suffered extensive damages.

Following the storms, the Town Manager indicated that, subject to confirmation by the Town Council upon its resumption of business following the summer recesses, any permits needed from the Town for repair work to recover from the flood damage would be issued without charge.

RECOMMENDATION

That the Council adopt the following resolution waiving fees for any permits needed from the Town to make repairs necessitated by the flood of July 23-24.


A RESOLUTION WAIVING PERMIT FEES FOR REPAIRS NEEDED DUE TO THE FLOOD OF JULY 23-24 (2000-08-28/R-12)

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Manager is hereby authorized to issue without charge any Town permits needed for construction or other work required to repair damage arising out of the July 23-24, 2000, flooding in Chapel Hill./
