SUBJECT: Status Report on Traffic Management Study Glen Lennox, Little Creek, and Oaks I Neighborhoods

This past February the Council adopted a resolution establishing a citizen work group to study the Glen Lennox, Little Creek, and Oaks I neighborhood areas and to identify possible traffic management opportunities on the local streets. The Council also authorized funding for facilitation services to assist the work group.
We had hoped to collect traffic data last spring and begin work group meeting last summer.
However, due to circumstances including the resignation of the Town Traffic Engineer and the unavailability of many of the work group members over the summer, there was consensus among work group members that meetings be delayed until this fall.
We have now hired a new Traffic Engineer who will provide staff support for the work group. We have also arranged for the facilitation services.
Current traffic counts on the area streets are scheduled to be complete by the end of September, after which the temporary turn diverters will be reinstalled on Rogerson Drive and Oakwood Drive at NC 54.
We plan to begin work group meetings in October, and we expect that the work group will try to present its report and recommendations to the Council in early 2001 with sufficient time for budget considerations.
