AGENDA #4L

MEMORANDUM

TO:                  Town Council

FROM:            Mayor Waldorf

SUBJECT:       January 29 Meeting on the Aquatics Center

DATE:             December 11, 2000

January 29, 2001 was originally scheduled for a Work Session on Shaping Orange County’s Future.  It is our understanding that Shaping Orange County’s Future will no longer be discussed on that date.  We also understand that January 29 is being held for an Assembly of Governments meeting.

Considering that the Aquatics Center is a topic of countywide interest and that the Council agreed to a January forum, I propose that the Council meet with the Orange County Board of Commissioners and the Carrboro Board of Aldermen in an Assembly of Governments forum on January 29 to hear public comments on the Aquatics Center proposals.

I request that the Council adopt the attached resolution, reserving that date to meet with our Orange County and Carrboro colleagues.

A RESOLUTION RESERVING JANUARY 29, 2001, FOR AN ASSEMBLY OF GOVERNMENTS FORUM WITH THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS AND THE CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERMEN TO DISCUSS THE AQUATICS CENTER PROPOSALS (2000-12-11/R-10.1)

WHEREAS, January 29, 2001, has been reserved an Assembly of Governments meeting date; and,

WHEREAS, the Aquatics Center is a topic of countywide interest;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council proposes January 29, 2001 as the date of an Assembly of Governments forum, to include the Chapel Hill Town Council, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, and the Carrboro Board of Aldermen to discuss the Aquatics Center proposals.

This the 11th day of December, 2000.
