SUBJECT: Review of Protest Petitions Received for Rezoning of University of North Carolina Central Campus Area

DATE: June 15, 2001

We have completed our initial review of protest petitions received by Wednesday, June 13, 2001, 5:00 p.m., relating to the proposed rezoning of the University of North Carolina central campus area. The results of our review show a protest petition has been filed on the south side that appears likely to be sufficient to require a 7-vote majority to approve the rezoning. The properties involved and location of intervening right-of-way have made this task more complex than usual. We expect to have a more complete report and a final determination as to the sufficiency of this petition for the Council on Monday evening.
