Position and Service Milestones:
Mayor and Council: Mayor's Assistant position made part-time (20 hours a week) in 1993-94
Town Manager: Additional Assistant Town Manager position added in 1982-83 / Town Clerk's functions and positions split out into separate division in 1985 / Risk Manager position added in 1987 (later transferred to Finance Department) /  Public Safety Director (functioning as third Assistant Town Manager) position deleted 1991 / Executive Assistant position transferred from Manager's Office to Attorney in 1999
Town Clerk:  prior to 1984 Town Clerk's position was appointed by and served at the pleasure of the Town Council; in 1984 the Town Clerk's position came under the supervision of the Town Manager and since then hiring decisions have been made by the Manager. / Town Clerk's office took on responsibility for distribution of mail and mailing functions in 1991, and for Americans with Disabilities Act in 1992
Human Resources: Employee Relations and Training Officer position added in 1986 as part-time, and converted to full-time in 1988; Safety and Wellness Coordinator position (converted from the Police Department's part-time Exercise Physiologist) added in 1990 -- funding later split between Police, Fire, and Human Resources. 
Finance: Risk Manager position added  abolished in 1991 /  Cost Accountant position added in 1991/ Information Technology (computer) functions begun in 1994 with a position split between the Police Department and Finance;  additional positions added in 1998, 1999, and 2001 / Additional payroll position added 1996
Legal: 1981- 83:  2 full-time attorneys; 1983 - 1989:  1 full-time attorney only; 1989 - 93: part-time legal assistant worked with Town Attorney; / 1991 -1997: part-time Police Attorney provided support to the Police Department; Police Attorney position made full-time in 1998
