Service milestones
1974-75 CHT began service August, 1974
1978-79 First became eligible for Federal Transit assistance.
1979-80 Purchased 16 new wheelchair accessible buses.
1980-81 Moved into current Maintenance and Operations facility off Airport Road (August, 1980)
1981-82 First became eligible for funding as an Urban system.
1983-84 Carried the system's twenty millionth rider.
1984-85 Tarheel Express greatly expanded  with opening of Smith Center (carrying passengers for basketball games and concerts)
1985-86 Moved into new administration building off Airport Road.
1986-87 Purchased 12 new buses, total fleet now 40 buses.
1988-89 Began first "regional" service on Blue Line.
1989-90 Started midday Downtown Trolley service.
1990-91 Recorded highest ridership in history of system.
1991-92 Upgraded all buses with new electronic fareboxes.
1992-93 Began Green Line service at request of Triangle Transit Authority; 2 full-time and 7 part-time drivers added as Town began providing shared ride feeder service directly (instead of contracting with local companies)
1993-94 Start of 20th year of service/carried 40 millionth rider/maintenance facility expansion completed.
1995 Eubanks Road and Southern Village park/ride lots opened for public use.
1995-96 and 1996-97 4 bus driver positions eliminated due to Triangle Transit Authority route reductions
1999-2000 EZ Rider service expanded with 1 FT and 2 PT positions added
2000-2001 Fare-free service scheduled to be provided January,2002; service to newly annexed areas being provided effective July 1, 2001
