MEMORANDUM

TO:                  Town Council Members

FROM:            Mayor Waldorf and Council Member Strom

SUBJECT:       Presentation on Orange County 2001 Bond Referendum

DATE:             October 22, 2001

Last winter, the Orange County Board of Commissioners appointed a citizen committee to review school and County capital needs.  The committee recommended $85 million to fund the highest priority needs of the schools and the County.

After consideration of needs and impact, the Board of Commissioners set the November 6 bond referendum at $75 million and will seek alternative financing for other priority projects.  The referendum would include:

·        School Bonds ($47 million)

·        Parks, Recreation, and Open Space ($20 million)

·        Affordable Housing ($4 million)

·        Senior Centers ($4 million).

Ken Chavious, the Orange County Finance Director and member of the Hillsborough Board of Commissioners, will be here tonight to provide information and answer questions.
