The inaugural Familias del Pueblo Road Race was a huge success.  There were 532 runners, 100 walkers, 50 children and 200 volunteers.  We raised $25,000 for the El Pueblo Youth Leadership Forum.  First Lady Mary Easley was the official starter for the 10k Run and Carolina Zaragoza, Consul de Mexico en Raleigh, was the official starter for the 1-mile walk. We received over $100,000 of value in kind donations.

We want to sincerely thank the Town of Chapel Hill and especially Flo Miller and Parrish Anderson for the hours they dedicated to the race.

We also want to sincerely thank the Chapel Hill Police Department and especially Officer Jack Terry and his team. Their positive energy and “can do” attitude was contagious!

Finally we received tremendous support in the way of personnel and supplies from the Orange County American Red Cross Chapter and the Orange County Amateur Radio Operators.

The following Chapel Hill companies also contributed to the success of the race, or made a contribution to the Hispanic Youth Leadership Forum:

Aurora Restaurant, Bagels on the Hill, Bell Leadership, Caffé Driade, Carol Woods Retirement Community, Carolina Asthma and Allergy Consultants, Chapel Hill News, Chapel Hill Tire, Duke Power, Food Lion, Franklin Street Reality, J. Knox Tate Architect, Larry J. Moray DDS, MS, Lowes Home Improvement and Warehouse, Squids/Spanky’s/411, UNC Health Care, The Ron Strom Company, Wellspring Whole Foods Market, WUNC-FM.

The true measure of success, though, was that there were indeed Many Cultures, but just One Race!
