AGENDA #4i

MEMORANDUM

TO:                  Town Council Members

FROM:            Rosemary I. Waldorf, Mayor

SUBJECT:       Request by Town of Carrboro regarding Memorandum of Understanding for Transit Services

DATE:             November 12, 2001

Carrboro Mayor Michael Nelson has requested that a committee be established to review and revise the current Memorandum of Understanding for transit services. Mayor Nelson suggests that the committee be composed of several board members from the Towns of Carrboro and Chapel Hill and representatives from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Please see attached letter from Mayor Nelson.

The Memorandum of Understanding for Public Transportation Services (MOU) is an important and complex document that outlines the operating and cost sharing relationship between the Towns and the University.  I believe that it would be useful for the staff to bring a report on the MOU to the Council at the January 14, 2002 meeting.  At that time the Council would discuss the request from the Town of Carrboro and other options for reviewing the Memorandum of Understanding.

If the Council agrees, I will communicate this to Mayor Nelson.
