SUMMARY OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

ADVISORY BOARD ACTION

SUBJECT:                              Comments on Proposed Amendment to 2001-2002                                                                  Community Development Program

MEETING DATE:                 April 26, 2002

RECOMMENDATION:       The Housing and Community Development Advisory Board did not take action on this item.

ISSUES RAISED:     The Board offered the following comments: (1) the proposed cost of $600 per student is very high, especially considering the program is only six weeks long; (2) The $65 consultant fee is too high; (3) the proposed job training program seems to be similar to the existing Junior Achievement program offered through the school system.  If the programs are in fact similar, the Board suggested that Community Development funds could be used to recruit youths to participate in the Junior Achievement program.   In addition, if it is determined that the program is similar to the Junior Achievement program, Youth Creating Change should provide evidence to explain why the Town should fund a similar program.
