TOWN OF CHAPEL HILL DILAPIDATED VEHICLE NOTICE

This is to advise you that the motor vehicle on which this notice has been placed is unable to operate on its own power and has been determined to be a health and safety hazard. You are hereby directed to remove said vehicle within thirty days.  Section 11.26 of the Code of Ordinances of the Town of Chapel Hill provides:

 

“It shall be unlawful for any person to allow or permit to remain on a lot owned, occupied or controlled by him, any exposed motor vehicle or part thereof in a junked or dilapidated condition for more than thirty (30) days after written notice by the Town Manager to remove same. Such notice shall not be given except upon a finding by the Health Department or the Building Inspector that such situation exists and constitutes a health or safety hazard.  Health or safety hazard as used herein shall include, but not be limited to, the accumulation of rubbish, underbrush or weeds around said vehicle, the presence of snakes, rats, or other similar animals, the accumulation of stagnant water therein so as to serve as a breeding ground for insects, or such physical conditions as may be likely to cause injury to persons coming in contact therewith.”

 

The undersigned has determined that a health or safety hazard exists due to the selected portion of the above ordinance.

 

In the event this vehicle is not removed within thirty-days of this notice, the Town Manager shall have the authority to remove and dispose of same. If this vehicle is removed by the Town, you are entitled to request a hearing under Chapter 21, Article IIIA of the Town Code.

The Inspections Department can arrange to have the vehicle towed and disposed at no expense to you.  Please sign and submit this “Authorization to Tow” form to the Inspections Department, 306 North Columbia Street, Chapel Hill, N.C. 27516.
