Dear Elkin Hills Neighbor:
In early September the University of North Carolina will submit an application to the Town of Chapel Hill for approval of a Special Use Permit (SUP). The SUP will be for an addition to the facilities complex at the corner of Airport Road and Estes Drive.
Several of your neighbors have requested an informal meeting prior to the submittal of the SUP application. We have arranged that meeting for Thursday, August 22, 2002 at 7:30 p.m. in the large meeting room downstairs at the Chapel Hill Library.
After it is submitted to the Town, the SUP will go through a lengthy review process including consideration by numerous citizen advisory boards (including the Planning Board, the Transportation Board, and the Community Design Commission). These meetings, as well as the public hearings that the Town Council will hold on the project, will afford numerous opportunities for citizen input.
Earlier this summer, the Community Design Commission reviewed the concept plan for the new facility. Several Elkin Hills neighbors spoke at that meeting. As a result of some of their comments, the site plan was modified to create a more compact design.
I hope that you will be able to join us on August 22. We will bring the drawings that have been further refined and modified since the CDC meeting. We will also have additional details about the use of the facility.
I look forward to seeing you on August 22.
Yours truly,
Bruce L. Runberg,
