The Parks and Recreation Master Plan, provided in a separate notebook for the Council, is now available for distribution. Copies of the Report can be found at the Parks and Recreation Department offices, the Chapel Hill Public Library, the Town Clerk’s office, and on the Chapel Hill Town website: www.townofchapelhill.org.

 

BACKGROUND

 

On May 13, 2002, the Council called a public hearing to hear initial public comment on the draft 2002 Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

 

On May 29, 2002, the Council adopted the 2002 Parks and Recreation Master Plan as part of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan with some revisions. The Council authorized the Manager to prepare a final revised document by September 2002.

 

DISCUSSION

 

On May 29, 2002, the Council authorized the Manager to make revisions in the adopted 2002 Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The following revisions have been made:

• A list of recommended pedestrian, bicycle, and bus access improvements were inserted in Chapter 4.
• University recreation facilities that are generally open and available to the public have been identified in Chapter 2.
• The map showing neighborhood parks was modified to illustrate the intent of locating the northwest and southeast neighborhood parks within the region rather than specific locations.
• A synopsis of the major recommendations of the report was inserted in the report’s Summary.
• Sections addressing lighting and site furnishings were added to Chapter 4.


• The Policy section of Chapter 2 now includes statements that refer to Bicycle Standards for the development and renovation of any park, the Percent for Arts ordinance and policy resolution, and a statement that it is a goal of the Town to reduce or eliminate any unnecessary light pollution in our parks.
• Chapter 4 was modified to include the most up to date information for Meadowmont Park.

 

The changes have been made to the attached document. It is now available for distribution to the public and for review on the Town’s website.
