OWASA Board of Directors calls special meeting to discuss water supply projections and emergency water use restrictions

The OWASA Board of Directors will hold a special meeting at 4:00 pm on Thursday, October 17, to review updated water supply projections for the next year and discuss the current emergency restrictions on water use.

The meeting will be in the Community Room at the OWASA Operations Center, 400 Jones Ferry Road, Carrboro.

The utility said Tuesday that the Creek Reservoir, the primary water source for the Carrboro-Chapel Hill community is 9 feet, 5 inches below full and that the smaller University Lake is full due to recent intense rains. Overall, the water in OWASA’s lakes rose from 34% full last week to about 62% full as of this morning. However, the reservoirs were about 70% full a year ago.

From Thursday through Monday, October 14, OWASA recorded 6.3 inches of rain at its Jones Ferry Road Water Treatment Plant in Carrboro and 5.1 inches at the Cane Creek Reservoir.

Under emergency restrictions in effect since September 9th, outdoor use of drinkable OWASA water is now prohibited.
