SUBJECT:       Appointment to Orange County Soccer Alliance

DATE:             November 11, 2002

The Orange County Soccer Alliance (OCSA) represents an umbrella group of all interested parties toward the promotion of soccer in Orange County and adjoining areas.  The Alliance’s long-term goals are to:

• Advocate for adequate facilities (fields) for soccer in Orange County (and adjoining counties where appropriate) for all ages, genders and races.
• Form a long-standing group that is inclusive of representatives from all existing soccer organizations and remain open to all future groups.
• Foster harmony and cooperation between these groups.
• Reach out to minority and underprivileged kids to aid in their inclusion in soccer.

• Secure funds from private entities to help finance soccer needs.
• Work with local governments and universities to garner support for soccer needs.

• Aid in the scheduling and programming of soccer at public soccer fields (and private fields, with permission).
• Promote the philosophy of school-park partnerships to aid in the sharing of facilities.
• Ensure that fields are properly maintained and used so as to prevent any deterioration.

We ask that the Council appoint Council Member Ward to represent us at the meetings of the Alliance.
