AGENDA 3a(1)
Petition sent via email for November 11, 2002:

Could we ask for your help/advice on a public safety issue?
In the two years since we have relocated from Eastgate to Fordham Square we have witnessed numerous--and I mean numerous--fender bender (and worse) traffic accidents on 15-501 North in front of our business location. There are probably multiple factors that contribute to this situation, but a significant one is the "blind" driveway leading into Fordham Square and our business. The attachment here labeled "driveway approach" illustrates how the row of tall everygreen trees seen to the right almost totally obscure the driveway until one is right on top of it. People slow down, turn in late, turn in too fast, etc., etc, and bad things happen.
The other two "driveway" attachments here show the driveway itself from two directions.
DOT has already informed us that they cannot/will not trim down the evergreens planted by them.
What we would like is to have DOT install a yellow diamond sign indicating the presence of the Fordham Square driveway, per attachment "DOT sign" herewith. They have told us this kind of request needs to come through the Town of Chapel Hill in some way.
Could you let us know how we might get this request started and accomplished?
(There is also a related problem with traffic lights and signage coming from the opposite direction on 15-501, but I will save that for another day).
Hope you are still enjoying being mayor. All politics is local, especially here.
Regards,
-Bill
